Not the gayest city in Mexico, that distinction is reserved for Puerto Vallarta, but Cancun is plenty gay friendly and sure to host a great vacation. Found on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun is one of the most popular travel destinations worldwide. You may just spend a day here as part of an amazing cruise or a whole week, basking in the warm sun and beautiful beaches.  The city is separated into two sections; there is the hotel zone where you will find many of the resorts and restaurants. The second area is a place you may spend some time, “El Centro” the downtown area is also home to the many gay bars and clubs. With 240 days of sunshine and average year round temperatures in the upper 80’s Cancun is ideal for sunbathing, surfing, windsurfing, fishing, snorkeling and great people watching on the beach.

Besides lounging at the resort of your choice and enjoying great pools and good drinks you may want to head outside the resort and check out a few other places in Cancun. First and foremost head to the above mentioned downtown area “El Centro”, here you can shop and enjoy some great local restaurants, and then head back to dance the night away in one of the clubs on Avenue Tulum. You can spend a day exploring the ancient Mayan ruins found 60 to 120 miles from Cancun, but well worth the trip. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and trekking while visiting the ruins, dress for the adventure. The Biosphere Reserve is another great place to spend a day while in Cancun. The reserve is home to bird sanctuaries and a refuge of spider monkeys, in addition to many other local plant life and other animals. You can also spend time swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving or even a special moment of a life time, swimming with the dolphins.

If you just want to get away from it all, spend your time at the resort, on the beach or enjoying any combination of the many great outdoor activities Cancun has to offer. Widsurf and snorkel, or maybe rent a boat for the day and cruise around the ocean and spend some time fishing. If the beach is your thing, you have many options, stay near the resort you are staying at or head over to Playa Delfines, the gay beach in Cancun. Playa Delfines is found just south of the hotel zone next the Ceasar Park Hotel.
