Planning your Honeymoon

No wedding, gay or straight, is complete without a honeymoon. Interest in gay & lesbian honeymoons has rapidly grown as more states and countries legalize same-sex marriages. While straight couples on a honeymoon have traditionally been welcomed at vacation spots around the world, we queers have experienced discrimination in many locales. Fortunately, there are cities and beautiful beaches that cater to gay and lesbian honeymooners. Many cities already have a variety of gay-friendly lodgings, bars, and restaurants for gay and lesbian couples to enjoy. It all depends on your preferences.

The honeymoon world is extremely accepting of gay and lesbian couples. Same-sex couples are honeymooning at destinations like New York City, Disney (Disney will even provide a honeymoon package for same-sex couples), Las Vegas, Key West, Hawaii, Mexico, Isreal, Austrailia, Europe, Asia, and Niagara Falls just to name a few.

Destinations where gay marriage is legal are the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, and Sweden. Vitenam allows gay marriages,
but it is not legally recognized. These countries are diverse and are amazing destinations for gay honeymooners. In the U.S., you’ll find great honeymoon hotspots in each of the states where same-sex marriage is (or will soon be) legal: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington State as well as the District of Columbia. Remember, its important that our community supports destinations that offer gays and lesbians civil protections.

Thoughts to Consider when planning your Honeymoon.

While planning your honeymoon, it is important to consider the various aspects that can make or break your honeymoon. Depending on how gay-friendly a destination is can impact your experience. Once you've settled on a destination, it's important to decide if you want a gay owned and operated property or gay-friendly property. This distinction can be very important as gay owned and operated accomodations are typically more like a bed and breakfast and have a more welcoming and intimate feel. Gay friendly accomodations are everywhere and often provide more amenities, activites, and can be all-inclusive depending on the destination.

Other thoughts to consider about your honeymoon are all-inclusive resorts and couple's only resorts. The most well-known couple’s only resort, Sandals, opened up their resorts to same-sex couples in 2004. However, we recommend choosing a non-Jamaican Sandals resort in order to avoid discrimination from the strict anti-gay laws in Jamaica. If you're looking for an all-inclusive gay resort, then the Adonis Tulum Riviera Maya in Mexico is a great option. Which ever way you decide to honeymoon, we can help you.

Some thoughts to also consider when searching for the best gay honeymoon destination are activities, location, price, and amenities. Often, depending on the type of interests you have will determine where you'll set your honeymoon sights on. If you're an adventurous couple that likes to hike or ski, then a more adventurous destination might be the best choice for you. If you're looking for romance, then a more remote, romatic beach destination might be best.

Every traveler, no matter what sexual orientation, gender, or race should expect a certain level of service. Once at the destination, expect the best. Queertrip clients can add amenities to any honeymoon package to enhance your experience. We can provide amenities like champagne, chocolates, and flowers upon arrival.
