Gay Vancouver

Vancouver is an emerald gem of the Pacific Northwest, situated just across the U.S. boarder from Seattle, Washington. Boasting the largest LGBT population in Western Canada, Vancouver is a popular gay-friendly vacation destination. Hosting tons of LGBT events throughout the year Vancouver is as queer as queer gets. For this it’s no wonder Vancouver is a preferred last minute vacations destination for many travelers.

The city is surrounded by beautiful scenes of nature. During the winter, there are three mountains for skiing, snowboarding, and fun in the snow, all within a 30 minute drive. For summer, the city’s location on the Pacific coast allows for breath taking sunsets. In Vancouver, many find the public transit system to be quite amazing, so you may want to ditch the rental car and give the city’s transit a try.

Most people think of Seattle when they think coffee, but if you are from Western Canada, you think Vancouver.  Commercial Drive or “The Drive” as it is known by to the locals is a must visit for women traveling to Vancouver and part of the reason Vancouver is known as a coffee city. This eclectic east side neighborhood is a hot spot for the Vancouver lesbian community.

The other neighborhood known for its dense gay population is the West End. This diverse up and coming neighborhood is home to not only a large portion of the city’s gays, but also a nice mix of retirees, immigrants, and urban youth making it a great place to hang out. The epicenter of the scene is the stretch of Davie Street between Burrard and Jervis, known as Davie Village. Davie Village hosts a cluster of cafes, casual eateries, pubs, nightclubs and shops. Granville Market, one of the largest farmers markets in the region serves up local produce and dishes to travelers and locals alike.

There are lots of gay friendly hotels in Vancouver. With gay marriage being legal in Canada, LGBT travelers can feel welcome and accepted. Come visit Vancouver, whether it is for a honeymoon, family vacation, or just a girl’s trip… this city has it all.
